Laid to rest
5 years we ago was Dylans funeral, just a graveside service with a few friends and some awesome family who drove a long way! Ive never written about that day and I have some great memories that I want to share!
It was an EXTREMELY cold day! The funeral director brought out Dylan's little tiny casket, fortunately we had seen the casket so it wasnt too much of a shock. Jim wrote a very sweet letter to Dylan and spent lots of time prefecting it. His plan was to read it but he told Stephanie "If I cant read it I will get (his friend) Marcus to read it." Stephanie heard "If I cant read it I will get a margarita." My sister is a funny girl.
Stephanie told my dad "If you need to cry just bite your tongue." Dad asked her "Can I borrow your tongue?"
Obviously it was a very sad time. Te chaplain from Children's hospital presided, my uncle Lance read a scripture, Jim read his letter and my mom sang a song she wrote! The song was amazing :"It was just one hold, just one kiss. . ." The song talked about how much Dylan touched our lives in the short 5 days he lived.
At one point during the funeral, the wind blew the casket a little. It wasnt that heavy to begin with as Dylan was only 1lb 2oz. My grandmother who was 79 at the time said she was going to jump up and catch it if it blew away. I think that would have made my day as she was a little stronger than , than she is now.
My sons funeral isnt something that I would have ever thought I would witness I guess, much less write about. But it happened and while I thought I wouldnt recover from the loss and pain, I have by God's amazing grace! Now they are sweet memories!
Just read your blog today (13th), time for more tears. Good remembrances though. You left off one that I will always remember. At the lunch afterward, little Garret said to you, "My mommy had a baby (Noah), but he didn't die." I can still just imagine the horror that gripped Lance and Pam!! Too funny. Isn't it nice how God helps to ease our pain moment by moment.
