Scolded in public

I might preface this post to say that Ava is a climber. She has amazing balance and the times that she has fallen are few and far between. However, those who are around her are quite frightened by her antics.

I was at my favorite store the other day when a clerk said to me "Maam your child needs to stay seated." And then she told Ava to sit down. I had been brave enough to take the 2 'I can do it myself girls' out to Target for an afternoon. They were both very well behaved except for Ava standing in the cart. I honestly was so upset that the lady scolded me that it ruined the entire trip. I spent the rest of time telling Ava to sit down which made her cry. Thanks so much lady, a quiet trip has now turned to battle of the wills!

Today while grocery shopping Ava was hanging, crawling all over the little truck grocery carts. Yet another clerk says to me "Shes going to fall."

I realize that there is liability for these stores if/when a child falls but please leave me and Ava alone. There is no doubt in my mind that I would totally freak if Olivia decided to pull these same tricks. Her balance is fair at best.

I hate getting trouble at the ripe old age of 25.

Sorry your trips were ruined. But you know, it's much easier to coach from the sidelines. That's what I have to tell myself when people look at me funny for allowing Caitlyn to do things that they deem inappropriate.
Don't sweat it Kari. You're a fantastic mom and anyone who matters knows that!
And I thought you were only 24 :O

Maybe you could get Ava a shirt that says, "I'm a trained stunt-woman." I think she just enjoys the view from different places and I know you've always got your eyes on her so these helpful shoppers need to mind their own beeswax : )
