A book review

There has been a great buzz about a new cookbook so much so that I purchased it. Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious

Just in case you havent heard of it, the concept is to add vegetable purees to kids foods to add to their daily vegetable intake. Ive had the book for a couple of weeks and have made about 3 recipes. I really did like the brownies that are made with spinach and carrot puree. My girls liked those too. Its nice to say sure you can have another brownie! In fact I might make those again today.

I also made macaroni and cheese with butternut squash puree. I have never purchased or cooked a butternut squash before this time. Again my girls loved it.

The recipe that pushed me over the edge were the chicken nuggets with spinach puree. For the brownies there is only a half a cup of the green stuff but for the chicken its a whole cup of green goop. I just couldnt do it. It pained to me throw them away after I made them. In all fairness I made a mistake in the preparation. I precooked the chicken which I read later you arent supposed to do. However after that fiasco Im not sure I can make those again.

All in all I really like the book. Its easy to read, spiral bound and has lots of pictures. The girls like to look through it too. It does to seem to be extra work for the purees but the author suggests making all the purees ahead of time. Im not quite that organized yet.
