Swim Lessons

We started swim lessons for the first time ever yesterday. It was a comical site at best.

The girls were in a class with 2 other children. I am assuming that both of them had had lessons before. They were swimming all over the pool and not listening to the instructor.

My girls on the other hand were a bit on the side of anxiety. They have been in pools quite a bit but always with Mommy, Daddy or there cousins. Some how they got the idea that they would be in the little pool. There is no little pool.

Olivia joined the class with no problem. Ava did not even want to sit on the side of the pool. This surprises me especially because on land, Ava is my risk taker. She climbs, tumbles, jumps on everything and even attempts hand stands. Olivia is the cautious one on land. Go figure, just when you get them figured out right?

With just a bit of encouragement Olivia swam half the length of the pool with a flotation device and a noodle. Of course she was screaming all the way how scared she was and how she couldn't do it. The teacher also got her to jump in although that is where she was super reluctant.

The last 10 minutes of the class Ava warmed up. She swam while holding on to the teacher. This morning I am praying he doesn't have neck cramps! The guy tricked both of them and got them each to jump in the pool at the very end.

All in all, it was absolutely worth my money. My parenting questions overwhelm my mind! Should I have stayed in there like I did? Should I have left? I was the only parent clapping, smiling and giving the crazy thumbs up! It was exactly what my girls needed at the time.

Next Monday is the next lesson! I am hoping I can just watch from the lobby!

  1. Smiles and thumbs up for Mommy! In our family you were the brave one and Stephanie was the one clawing the back of my neck as she hung for dear life. Have fun and enjoy your new adventure!

  2. For quite a while I had both of mine hanging on for dear life and crying. We kept going though, and now they both love the water. I figure it's better to do it now than when they are older and more set in their fears.

    Good luck next week!

Thanks for stopping by my blog :) To ease my soreness I walked/ran on the treadmill on an incline today, and that really seemed to help... for now anyway. Right after I did that I Shredded again, so I may not be able to walk tomorrow. Maybe we should just count on not being able to walk for the next 30 days!

Good luck with your Shredding! Let me know how it goes!
